Bunting
A recipe to meet your neighbour
You will need: a street that you live on, paper, black marker pen, photo frame, a street sign, old zip ties, 2 or more plastic chairs, old bed sheets, a basket, Indian fabrics, ribbon, needle, thread, pins, an empty mug and warm clothing
- Take all of your materials to the street. choose a suitable place that is not too in the way.
- Write upon the paper “I’m trying to meet my neighbour” and place in the frame
- Hang the frame on a road sign using a zip tie, this may be quite difficult to knot and would be worthwhile checking if the wind is loosening the knot every now and again.
- Now you are ready to meet your neighbours, get ready to chat throughout all of the other tasks.
- Purchase different Indian fabrics in a local store, perhaps offcuts or from a charity shop in an effort to recycle.
- Place the old bed sheets over the plastic chairs, this will make the chairs look more homely and inviting.
- Place the fabrics, needles thread and pins in the basket next to you, keep everything tidy and stop the wind blowing things away.
- Listen to peoples histories and stories.
- Fold and pin the fabrics together, this will make it easier to cut out your triangles
- Accept generous cups of tea to keep you warm.
- Cut out your triangles, about the size of your hand. make as many as possible.
- Pin the triangles along the ribbon
- Sew the triangles along the ribbon with the help of the people you meet.
- Hang your bunting on your road sign to make a clear area where you are sitting.
- Keep inviting people to sit with you and sew
