Swap Books for Stories
I love stories…
They make me feel at home. Being told stories when I was young are some of my fondest memories. Telling stories is a gift too.
I wanted to create a safe place for a conversation to start and what better way than to give a gift of a book. I set up a stall with the sign “Swap stories for books,” surrounded myself with books and waited.
There was no right or wrong – anyone could tell me a story. It could be something as simple as “what I had for breakfast” to telling me an entire Roald Dahl novel!
I had a fantastic time and met some really amazing people. I heard fascinating stories and I really appreciated the trust that the community put in me. One family even spent an hour with me and brought me tea and biscuits! I was really grateful.
One story that resonated with me, was a true story told by a gentleman I met:
Ten years ago he got sick with kidney failure and to save his life his wife gave one of her kidneys to him. They are still together now.
Thank you for your stories
